sharp with kicks

erin, 19, previously featured, near dupont circle.
erin keeps it simple. it's still weirdly warm here in dc, so she's taking advantage of her coatlessness with a hoodie and velvet blazer. her shoes are excellently multicolored.

dupont circle

it was warm enough today that i got to go wander around dupont circle in washington, dc with my coat open and no hat or gloves.

annalisa, 18, previously featured, near dupont circle.
she is wearing the same boots she had on in her last picture.
the scarf cinches the deal for me.

dani, 31, at dupont.
this is how i desperately wanted to dress before i went away to college, and i don't manage to do it often enough. why shouldn't we all dress up like this to go to school or work?

matthew, at dupont.
again with the scarves on men...i'm a little obsessed.

this is me, also hanging out near dupont.
i'm wearing my favorite sweater and my all-time favorite scarf. the scarf is chinese and is so enormous that it is basically a textile blanket. i wear it so much that i worry that it will eventually quit on me and start to come apart. i'm wearing my pleasantly grungy boots (similar to eddie's a number of posts ago) which i got from a friend years ago.

high school looks

age doesn't determine whether or not you are fashionable. young'uns these days are ahead of the curve.

nicole, 16, previously featured, at school in washington, dc.
the dress is thick and cozy, in addition to being a wild color. compare this with nicole's previously featured outfit and you can see that she loves her boots and any high socks.

katherine, 16, at school in dc.
this is a perfect twist on the usual jeans and tee: skinny jeans, baggy tee, scarf. the tee was home-dyed as a fund-raiser for a school club.

scarf and pea

jorge, 18, previously featured, on the cta in chicago.
this is solid for guys in the winter--scarves are of course my favorite piece of clothing ever. also, the grey pea coat is superior to black.

10 December 2008

blue and brown dress

dcannalisa, 18, at a washington, dc house party.
great dress, great ankle boots. it is wonderful when it's still warm enough to wear tights outside.
she's really got a twee look down, with the pose and hair. i love it.

grey layers

nicole, 16, at a washington, dc house party.
this is layering at its finest, plus i am a huge fan of grey. nicole looks comfortable too.

yellow shades at night? a must.

10 November 2008

nautical pants

violet, 18, at university.
"it's the high pants, isn't it?" her friend asked. yeah, and the scarf, necklace, and hair. this is proof that it is entirely possible to wear high-waisted pants with ease. plus i have a weakness for keeping those plastic concert or party entry wristbands on for a while past when they were needed.

04 November 2008

black and flowers, soft brown, striped flats

today's outfits are simple but hip.

i'm headed down to grant park now to the massive obama party to get into the presidential election swing of things. it's great living in chicago.

maria, 19, previously featured, at university.
all the black works together. sadly the picture is a bit blurry but her earrings and necklace are great.

victoria, 20, at university.
i love brown and her dress has a few shades of it. i am also into the high-tops and socks combination, and her gold pendant.
it's difficult to pull off this hair but she is successful and i think it's really part of who she is.

glynis, 18, at university.
it is really all about pendant necklaces, apparently. glynis's is a buddha. i just love the proportions and gentle colors of this outfit and how she wears it. the flats are an excellent touch.

29 October 2008

orange skinnies, flight jacket, blue stripes

candice, 19, at university.
it takes guts to pull off these colors together but it looks great. plus the hat! and the moccasins!

meghan, 18, at university.
the jacket and scarf are aviatoresque, plus dark nails and a leopard headband. moderate cold outside should mean layering like this, not wearing enormous parkas all the time.

zeke, 18, at university.
zeke is an enormous threadless fan so he is of course wearing a threadless t-shirt. there are a lot of patterns going on here but they are all in the same area of blue and are a success.

26 October 2008

pink & black

can't get more solid than guys' black nikes with pink details.

25 October 2008

flannel

eddie, 18.
flannel is back.
eddie got these excellent boots either for free or near it at a church rummage sale.

symphony

ann, 21; norma, 20; and lizzie, 19, all previously featured, outside a university symphony concert.
they are all really well pulled together. i especially like the shoes. people don't dress up enough so it's refreshing to decide to get spiffy even for a not-so-formal event.

black and red work well together and are not overly serious here. the coat is prime for fall.

i love ann's leather bow belt. also, the proportions are great--her pants are just a little pegged and the shirt is nice and long.

this is me. as you can see, i'm a fan of layers. fall is the best "outfit weather."

heels

there is just something about shoes.

butterflies

maria, 19, backstage at a student fashion show.
maria is wearing vintage reworked by victoria maya. i love the fit and colors, although the butterflies make the dress almost too extreme for actually wearing out.

24 October 2008

gardeness

erin, 18, at a washington, dc garden reception.
i'm getting a greek goddess feel from this. the dress is a great color for her, and the headband and flowers colors contrast well. i wish i had gotten her shoes into the picture--i don't remember what they looked like!

bike machine

first ave, minneapolis.
i don't know this guy's name, but not only does he have a passable outfit and flawless shoes, he is piloting a massive multi-person bicycle-powered moving contraption and if that isn't rad then nothing is.

23 October 2008

birthday partiers

ann, 21, and norma, 20, before a party.
these outfits are simple, pulled-together, and mature. ann keeps her tunic sweet by adding black undershorts and tights. norma's heels and hair are spot-on.

lizzie, 19, and ann. lizzie's look is casual, so her tan heels are a pleasant surprise. also, we get a great view of ann's jewelry, and it's all about elegant proportions with her outfit, from necklace to tunic to boots.

h&m gentleman

jorge, 18, at the michigan avenue h&m.
he picked out the hat and shirt, and i picked out the pants. he was a little freaked out about the concept of "skinny jeans," but of course i advocated them as "pants that properly fit."
the men's section of this specific store is pretty impressive: it's a whole floor.
